In a time of apparent freedom, we can easily express ourselves without being beheaded and / or burnt alive, we are slaves!

It is not about just control over our every step, every move or movement.

There is a tyrant, that has no face or entity, even though it has power and material substance.

And although, as I’ve written many times, notes can easily break chains, they have a hard time breaking these chains.

The tyrant’s name is: Crowd.

With the recent death of Lavrentis Mahairitsas, virtually all of his songs appeared on all social media.

Among many others unknown to the general public.

What prompted this article is a project he had at the beginning of his career, the P.L.J. Band.

A very interesting attempt made by three musicians.

P. L. J. Band

“The story of the PLJ Band begins in 1978 when Lavrentis Mahairitsas, Pavlos Kirkilis, Antonis Mitzelos and Dimitris Vassalakos embark on their adventure and set sail for … Europe !!!

Having already recorded a “private” 45er (Gaspar), they leave with a Dechevaux and move from town to town for a year, playing at various clubs in order to maintain themselves.

Incredible and unthinkable things, even today“, Nikos Kourouklis writes in his youtube account.

In turn, Giannis (K.H.) Pandazisto lends his writings to the blog, somewhere-back-in-time.blogspot.com.

And here comes the first question.

Why are some musicians forced to do so at the same time that Greek composers are already making a career at home and abroad?

Just four years after the fall of the junta, in a period of political “plaster”, not only did freedom was plastered, but also education and culture.

A country like Greece should be thirsty for music that is already circulating throughout free Europe.

But who didn’t get a chance to listen, because some “psychopaths” decided to put plaster all over the nation’s ears.

In the place where muses were born, music is still being persecuted even today …

Silently and with the consent of an “absolute majority”.

At the same time, the “cheap” – ephemeral music, which was recommended by junta propaganda, was even more flourishing.

Starting an..adventure

The continuation of the story may give us some answers: “Their adventure leads them to Paris where Vangelis Papathanasiou (an already successful Greek in France with Aphrodite’s Child) helps them as much as possible, so they get in touch with French Polygram, with which they sign a contract. “

It probably begs another question: Is music ultimately the result of public relations?

Certainly the beginning of Aphrodite’s Child is an almost fictional sequence of events and coincidences.

A series of unfortunate events, which leads to a happy ending.

They dared to play something very innovative and without even forgetting their background, giving a lot of elements to their music.

Going all over Europe with a Dechevaux can be a simple youthful impulse, but I guess it was a simple imitation of the steps of Demis Roussos and Vangelis Papathanasiou, but with a slightly safer course.

Listening to “Armageddon“, as the album was called, one can easily compare it to “666“, without of course reaching its level.

An attentive listener will understand the album’s roughness, but also many good ideas and of course their talent.

It may be understandable to have a time-consuming approach, as “Aphrodite’s Child” was not selling much anymore, but the 7-year-old plaster did not allow much contact with the music stream.

Pink Floyd had already “hidden the sun” in any new band trying to imitate them.

Without money…

But the sequel gives a basic point: “Unfortunately the company did not have great resources to promote the album and on the other hand the band had no money at all.

The fact that they would go out to the park every night and were hunted by the police, says it all.

They stayed in France for five months and returned to Greece.

Another album (Termites) was released, renamed themselves as Termites and after a few records they broke up, with their most famous member (Lavrentis Mahairitsa) pursuing a successful solo career.

Prog Rock is all good, but in Greece if you don’t make a night’s money, change your profession because you will starve. “

Let’s take the points one by one:

Music, whether we like it or not, exists only when there are ears to hear it.

It doesn’t matter what compositions a musician will write, but how many will hear it.

From the era of Rock N ‘Roll’s first steps and the payola scandals, to the present day, where you can find whatever information you want at any time …

What matters is what will be shown to you in your face.

There is no chance for a music band to succeed unless they over-projected by the media.

And that’s how everything is made in the music industry, but also in our lives, unless you are boosted by big money, you are not going to do much.

This power of money is possessed by large music organizations, such as record companies. For whom musicians are just investment products.

But “People Have the Power” as Rock’s “priestess” says, Patti Smith, along with song co-creator and husband Fred Smith.

I will agree, but if you do not have the elemental intelligence and do not handle it properly then you simply lose your meaning and freedom!

Blurred by propaganda and addicted to musical compositions that do not exceed the Jingles value, they are simply repeated within the song itself.

The Crowd

The crowd looks like a monkey with intellectual disabilities, thrilled with anything that glares.

It is unable to use critical thinking, while at the same time spending its money on bright (musical) jewelry, whose value does not exceed his ethical value.

Its arrogant ignorance is indifferent to anything that does not shine through false media lights.

It does not understand music, such as a dog is barking at what it does not understand.

This is the invisible, but material, entity called “the Crowd.”

The fashion of every season or every “click” is simply its first cousin.

If each of us does not listen with our own ears and judge music with its own mental capacity, then this silly “monster” …

The Crowd, will grow fed by our stupidity itself.

There will always be musicians who will be sacrificed to the manipulative benefits of an industry similar to that of a huge American livestock farm.

Mahairitsas’ subsequent P.L.J. success, with lighter sounds, helped us to learn his difficult first steps.

How many more significant bands were lost because of this arrogant ignorance and the system that sustains it?
